More progress on the Heritage Feature.

A surround of a single layer of bricks from Coleford Brick & Tile at Cinderford has been added to the feature to aid maintenance. The bricks were hand made at the Cinderford works. The infill is a layer of crushed slate. The slate is not local to the area.

Timber Harvesting at China Bottom

The Forest of Dean is a working Forest and from time to time timber is harvested. Following the harvesting, the felled areas will be replanted. Information from Forestry England: The replanted tree species are planned to be Douglas Fir, Red Cedar and Sessile Oak at a ratio of 50/30/20. Key to this restock is Forestry

Oakwood Brook
Repairs now completed The closed track which offers a shortcut from post 12 to post 15 has now re-opened as the repairs have been completed. March 2021: After heavy rains, part of a bridge over the Oakwood Brook has collapsed. Although this is not on the route of the heritage walk it does rule out

Tramline feature improvements

More work is being carried out on the tramline feature near the start of the walk. To ease maintenance in summer and to help the feature stand out the turf around it has been removed and reworked into an uneven area in the grounds. The aim is now is to lay down a water-porous membrane
